As the King of Lasting Night's final breath was taken, the night sky was painted with colors it thought it'd long lost. Golden starlight rained from the forgotten heavens, beckoned with each sprawl of Iseldrllyr's wings. Stardust trickled from the tips of her talons, warmth seeping into the cursed ground.
Far too long had darkness persisted, and with it, the endless suffering of all but He Who Took. But with the dawning of the new Queen of the North, finally, life would return.
Twilight would always remain. For even in death, the late king's malevolent curse remained strong. But it would forever be conquered by Her Stars— warriors of light that would restore all that was lost. Warmth not by the felled sun, but a gift to tainted night. A blessing.
And for the first time in centuries, there was hope. There was light. And there was life.

I don't really even know where to begin, haha. It feels so surreal still, seeing an idea I had in my mind for ages come to life with an artist I've dreamed of commissioning since I first came to FA several years ago. Truly, it's a dream come true. I couldn't be happier with how this turned out; with the pure beauty of it. The golden sheen of beckoned starlight in contrast to the cold darkness— how ethereal Iseldrllyr herself looks... Goodness, I could just go on and on. The trail of stardust trickling from her wings and seeping into the ground as well, ugh, I'm just so in love with everything about this. This moment is such a pivotal one in Iseldrllyr's lore, so making sure it was right was crucial. And... well, I couldn't ask for more perfection.
Making sense of the lore above, the former draconic king within her land (He Who Took/The King of Lasting Night) is a tyrannical sort who 'stole' the light from the Northern Lands and forever cloaked it in darkness, warping it entirely into a cruel, glacial place that befitted only he. Iseldrllyr, a child of the stars, rose to challenge his claim and won. Though the powerful dragon's curse of night will always remain, Iseldrllyr's blessing of starlight is just as strong. And so, though the Northern Lands will still always be shrouded in night, light has returned to it.
Of course... what were to happen if Iseldrllyr bestowed her own 'curse', via taking her light away? Well... that's exactly what happened in the later, darker half of her life. And so, unfortunately, the North has all but returned to how it once was. Dead, hopeless, and cold.
I really do want to get some environmental art to show off her homeland a bit, especially with a 'before' and 'after' and then a second 'after' (this being after Iseldrllyr's own descent into madness). I'd say, in the good 'after' though, the Northern Lands are probably downright gorgeous, with unique flora and fauna that's adapted to being perpetually in starlight rather than sunlight. So hopefully one day in the future! For now though? Please enjoy this gorgeous art with me. <3

More lore and lands.
More depth.
More perspectives...
Oh yeah, it definitely couldn't get any better... at this point.
And truly, even with her size, in common situations, it's hard to imagine WHAT power is truly hidden inside. Until you see this.
How much I love it when dragons show the world their true flame...
In all of its forms.
More depth.

I just can’t dont share the thoughts that come from such views - always welcome and thank you too for everything.
This window into this world is one of the deepest and most colorful I've seen, and in my studies of dragons I've seen quite a few some "windows".
This one of the few here, with such depth - but distinguished by its special uniqueness and spirit.
