The Williamsburg Minutemen were left for dead after the 2009-10 season, which saw them post their worst campaign (14-66) in their short history.
The rebuilding process then began.
The new general manager, Samuel Gwosdz (red fox), drafted a prized prospect in Vera La Tiérra (red vixen), the star guard for the LBPR's Estrellas de San Juan. He also drafted sharpshooting forward Damien Nathaniel (hyena) from the University of Arkansas at the start of the second round.
The general manager also re-signed one of the cornerstones of the Minutemen franchise for the past three seasons: Nick "Ivory" Nwabudike (elephant). The tall center could continue his repitoire with friend and teammate Dorteo "Ebony" Masalia. The overhaul was completed when Gwosdz signed top free-agent forward Lenny Hicks (coydog) with a last-minute offer.
The results couldn't have been scripted any better.
The regular lineup led the Minutemen to a 40-40 record, a 26-game improvement, and advanced to the second round of the playoffs before falling to the Newark Pride.
More and better is to come for the Minutemen, who can be proud of their franchise again.
PG Vera La Tiérra - Red Vixen - 6'3" - #10
SG Teo Masalia - Black Panther - 6'4" - #19
SF Damien Nathaniel - Hyena - 6'10" - #32
PF Lenny Hicks - Coydog - 6'10" - #30
C Nick Nwabudike - Elephant - 7'9" - #28
EDIT: I gave Damien a tail. It's short and stubby, like most hyenas, so this is all you can see.
SECOND EDIT: I fixed the uniforms so that they are accurate. The side stripes, though good-looking, were incorrect.
THIRD EDIT: JT's right; Nwabudike is 7'9", not 7'10".
