Because it's a physical blow vs. magic. Give Prince Baka that much credit: He knows enough that if magic fails, try a physical attack on the shield. Unfortunately, Suzokon-kyō looks to be about 5 moves ahead of him.

Completely one sided. He's dodging just by stepping to the side.

Suzokon-kyō looks about as concerned as if he's taking matcha at a Sunday tea ceremony.

Which of course is just going to make Dime Store Thor even more cheesed off. Eventually, he's going to make a fatal mistake, and we've seen just how fast Lord Suzocon can act when given an opening. Suzocon-sama is playing chess. Prince Taran is playing whack-a-kitsune and losing. Badly.

I like the nice detail that the heavy hits to the shrine shield creates a backburn of kitsunebi and that Suzocon-sama now has all eight of his tail out. When the counterpunch comes, it's gonna hit as hard as Rocky Balboa's fist.

Kitsunebi = Foxfire. The pink fire that appears when Lord Suzocon uses his magic, or when he charges it up to full power. It can be used like will-o-the-wisps, to cast illusions, but it also is a sign of how powerful he is. He even can use it to burn people, like he did to two of the quetz guards. You can see it when one of Prince Taran's lightning bolts strikes his shrine defense, or his personal shield (as above).

Looks like it's sharp edged too. Getting hit with it probably would be like getting hit by a meat cleaver. Not that it matters to the shield!

You know, I’m not the prince of a species based off a Central American empire’s feathered serpent god. But if I’m fighting someone, and they’re wearing a confident smirk after several minutes and multiple attacks to no visible effect, I’d probably consider leaving and calling for reinforcements right about now.

After Suzocon disintegrated two guards messily and ate the third, logic would dictate you come back with Vetra-jou, Taran-ouji and a couple of divisions, and just shell him and his shrine to dust. But apparently, Taran-ouji alone was enough to deal with Vetra, so they think the same thing will work with Suzocon. Eh... not so much.
