Piano Solo: Going for Gold (Theme)
Hans Zimmer is a German film score composer best known for integrating electronic music sounds with traditional orchestral arrangements. Since the 1980s, Zimmer has composed music for over 150 films. He has won two Academy Awards for Best Original Score for The Lion King (1994), and for Dune (2021). His works include Gladiator (2000), The Last Samurai (2003), the Pirates of the Caribbean series (2003–2011), The Dark Knight trilogy (2005–2012), Inception (2010), Man of Steel (2013), Interstellar (2014), Dunkirk (2017), No Time to Die (2021), and the Dune series (2021–).
But the song of his that I've done a piano arrangement for here is the theme tune to another British television game show, "Going for Gold," which began as an unsold US pilot called "Run for the Money." Going for Gold was a quiz competition featuring contestants from all across Europe (the four nations of the United Kingdom fielded their own contestants as representatives of the four individual nations that made up the UK: England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland); note that the last season's episodes only featured contestants from the UK, representing different counties. In both cases, the program was done entirely in English, and all players were competing to win a grand prize, such as trips to the Olympic Games (hence the title). The show followed a repechage format, whereby unsuccessful contestants from Monday's show would return on Tuesday, and so on throughout the week. Each episode lasted for 25 minutes, including four rounds.
I also dedicate this to the memory of its host, Henry Kelly, who sadly passed away earlier this year at the age of 79.
