clearing out the archives a little, and ewww look what i found: 3 year old designs for a TLK2 rewrite i've been babying for also 3 years!

the idea has quickly risen in popularity: Simba's Pride but the Outlanders are hyenas. my take is that this is based, but you gotta take it to its logical extremes: Kovu's hyena stand-in prolly wouldn't be male - spotted hyenas are matriarchal, after all - and Disney loved giving its protags same-gender children in their sequels, plus only heterosexuals exist in 90s kids media, so it makes sense to indulge that inner fanchild and plug in some of the most beloved/beloathed ye olde franchise characters.

Kopa and Asante were the Kion and Jasiri of their day, but with arguably stronger Kiara and Kovu energy, so their replacing the K couple would be a no-brainer. the species difference would do more in favor of the plot, i think; no more sloppily writing around incest, no more cultural baggage concerning the villainizing of the hyenas, no more randomass Literally Who lionesses, no more nonsense. undeniable marketability of two lion cubs be damned, #justiceforthehyenas

i still intend on finishing that TLK2 rewrite of mine someday, and of course i'll make character redesigns (among other art) to go with it, but i'm in no rush. there's no shortage of that kinda stuff these days. might try something different and make it, like, a zine or something, but i'm not exactly reinventing the wheel here
