Page 4 : The Kobold Mercenary Company
A cousin species of the Forest Breeder dragons, the kobolds have always found a way to profit from the rapid expansion of their dragon kin society. The most cunning and lucky of them rose up to the prestigious and highly wealthy role of Merchant Princes during the Royal Era, and continued to make a massive profit after the coming of the Breeder Empire.
These Merchant Princes have now become extremely influent CEOs, masters of the tentactular kobold mega corporations owning parts of entire planets and fiercely defending their interests on these.
And their prefered way to defend those interests? Hiring their own private army. Kobold Mercenary Companies, or KMC in short, have become a common occurence across the Empire. They attract many kobolds in search for an easy coin to make, so long as they are willing to put up with the many risks.
A kobold mercenary starts their career with the most basic equipment that can be given to them. Most are armed with ancient weaponry dating back several centuries and have to put-up with it until they can either buy or loot better gear.
Others have resorted to scavenging, tinkering with oversized and home-made weapons that function half the time and blow up the other half. Finally, some opted for the much more risky move of using gear that was obviously stolen from the Imperial Army.
Anything is fair game in order to make more money and upgrade their gear, allowing them to take on more prestigious contracts and climb the ladder of usefulness in the eyes of their corporate bosses.
Despite the many collateral damage that KMC operators leave behind them, the Empire cannot deny how efficient their presence can be on non-critical worlds. And thus, despite publicly shaming the use of these mercenaries, the throne has never been scared to contract them for dirty work.
