I did this picture a while ago, and was debating about submitting it here, but I figured why not? ^^ Just a copy and paste comments from DA XD Not alive enough to write something new, and it covers everything.
Full view is not much bigger, but you see it a blit more clearly ^^
This has to be one of the first pokemon fan art ideas I've ever had, and I just NOW got around to drawing it. How sad is that?!
When I first played pokemon yellow, (the first pokemon game I had myself. I played blue when it first came out, but it was my cousin's XD) this had to be the first pokemon that I fell in love with. Just reading the pokedex entries for it can make you feel incredibly sorry for poor little Cubone.
But the one thing you never saw was the face underneath. Cubone always had such expressive eyes, (even if they are slanted funny and make it seem pissed off in almost every picture) but you never saw the face that went with those eyes.
This is my interpretation of what Cubone looks like under the skull of its mother. There's only so long that you can hide under a mask and not need to take it off to have a good cry. So this is just a solemn picture of a sad little Cubone thinking of its mother as it gazes at her skull.
I personally adore the shading on the skull! I am amazed at how well that turned out! *squee* XD The background for this image is based off the trading card seen here: http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e.....ubone-card.jpg
That was probably one of my most beloved trading cards. I just adore the scene. XD
And PLEASE Do NOT redistribute this without my permission. If you would like to use this somewhere else, ask me first. I don't bite.

I can't say I've really been a big fan of Cubone in Pokemon.
[I'm a Shinx and Eevee person myself..] Though this...makes sense with the concept you put into it.
When you think about it, Cubone probably would have to take the bone helmet off and cry all the time. I mean it's only wearing it's deceased parent's skull after all.
Naturally, the theme here would be something like..loneliness as you've captured very well. I say that as the Cubone's alone there out underneath a..very well composed star night sky, isolated against that log there. [Away from the forest on the far left side of the picture.] It's...actually kind of poetic in a way when you take a moment to look at it.
Poetic in the sense of "longing for" due to the crying here and lonely setting.
But moving from that..I do enjoy how you color here. One, because it looks like you painted everything in, and two, because there are no black outlines. Which..I guess in saying, would be the reason I think that it looks like a painting to me.
I believe it goes without saying that this is a well done picture here.
Call me amazed by this~
