Kah-ching … Kah-ching … Kah-ching.
The slow rhythmic sound of boot spurs rings out loud in the still dusty air of the western town as the unforgiving hot sun overhead reaches high noon -- then silence. The towns folk behind doors and shut windows holds their collective breath.
The moment drags on in silence, seemingly forever. Even the narrowed eyes of the gunfighters are motionless … waiting.
Then suddenly in the space of a heartbeat, pawhands flash to six-guns and pull them from their holsters ....

Pretty much any of the themes from the TV Western series would work: Bonanza, Gunsmoke, Paladin, The Rifleman, Wagontrain, Cheyenne, Little House on the Prairie, Bat Masterson, as well as countless Western movies. This pic was inspired particularly by the "spagetti Westerns" of the 60's, particularly the "Man with No Name" Clint Eastwood series of movies.
I was never very much of a fan of westerns although I'm familiar with their theme. I like the poster you've created here, the orange background complement the theme well. The warm color gives a sense of heat of the hot desert that most westerns take place in. Also nice portrayal of personality contrast of cowardice and heroism between the main character and his companion. Well done poster! ^^
Thanks very much, Raithwal! You touched on all the things I wanted my “movie poster” to get across to the viewer -- very observant!
My two characters where chosen for their roles in this poster because Dai (the lionmorph) is much more “physical” and action-oriented than his best friend Wilber (the wolf morph). Wil, while willing to follow Dai into any “adventure”, no matter how dangerous, is at best a gentle soul better suited for facing the “dangers” of reading a dusty tome in a forgotten Hogwarts library.

Thanks, Timid. I try to put extra effort into the expressions of my characters so that their emotions and reactions come across to the audience. That way, if the expressions of the characters can be "read" then the viewer can "experience" what is going on in the picture.
Thanks for the good comment.
Thanks for the good comment.
So many artists give their characters blank store manikin expressions -- mindless grins -- one no different from the others in the same picture.
Since an artist should be a story-teller I prefer to use my cast’s expressions to give the viewer a glimpse of how the characters in the moment are feeling or experiencing that moment or maybe a little glimpse into the character's personality. Some expressions will be obvious, while others might be a little more complex.
