Character art I made for my submission to the Interstitial 2E playbook jam, The Reanimated, a playbook for characters who died, came back to life, came back different, and need to learn to live again.
For this design, I tried thinking of tragic figures in various kids media, as well as the emo/goth aesthetics of my youth, including Bakura from Yu-gi-oh: Duel Monsters, Lucky from Animal Crossing, Asriel Dreemurr, and Isaac from The Binding of Isaac, as well as the animation Move Your Dead Bones by Zarla Sheenaza. Black cats and ankhs also felt like good imagery to evoke for a character who died and came back to life. And I'll be honest, he is kind of just wearing a more simplified version of Meow Skull's outfit.
The playbook itself is inspired by an interstitial campaign I was in that was run by
spacerobt in which we played as characters who died are were given a second chance at life via a version of The Reaper's Game from The World Ends With You that had been crossed with the olympics. I played as a version of Asriel Dreemurr drawing from various "Asriel Lives" AUs including Dreemurr Reborn and Growth Spurt AU by
guitarstudios . Thematically, I also felt it would be interesting to make a more optimistic version of the "came back wrong" trope, drawing from the idea of recovering from injury/trauma and living with a disability.
