Character

Rhijaan was born in the Fiaro nation on Rynthia, a planet more than eight thousand lightyears from Earth. As any Fiaro, he has no parents, as all Fiaro are able to exchange body parts, and instead, he was raised by the entire community of Illari village. Other than his head, none of his body parts were originally his; they are exchanged constantly within the entire Fiaro community. Even as a child, Rhijaan was obsessed by fire and ballistics. The Fiaro are very resistant to fire, and even hard impacts make them merely fall apart. He studied chemistry and physics just to figure out how all kinds of weapons work, and found himself working for UFIS on their spaceships, maintaining ship's weapons. Here he found that pretty much no one else shared his modular abilities. For the first time in his life, his body had become "static", not being able to exchange any parts with anyone; he had to take good care of it. This was hard at first, as his reckless behaviour now had consequences, and in the first few months of service he was a regular visitor of his ship's sickbay. He learned to appreciate his fellow crew member's caution and care, and started to understand how life was like with only one set of body parts you can't exchange. He has also been wearing a ring with an enchanted crystal around his tail, that helps him stay in one piece.

Throughout his career on several ships he kept his playful demeanour, and he often tested out new weapons himself, as he was more resilient against blunt damage. This led to more than one occasion where he had to collect his body parts together after being blown apart. He also has a particular preference for spicy food, and finds food without any spices quite dull in taste. Most of the time, he likes to cook meals himself, so he can get his preferred mix of spices. He's also an avid storyteller, loving to share his adventures from his youth, or from his time on other ships. Eventually he ends up on the Pioneer, and find the magic of Earth fascinating, much more exotic than anything he had seen. He decided to stay on the ship for the long term, with its very diverse crew and their frontier adventures. Because to him, this is the place where stories were being made, and he didn't want to miss out on any opportunity to be part of it...

I've had this character in my archives for a while now, but hadn't written a proper description for him.

Before you ask: yes, he's based on those modular creatures from the movie "Labyrinth". Even the name of his species refers to it. But unlike the movie, they aren't the only kind of Rynthians. There are four more nations, with different abilities (or lack thereof), and only the Fiaro are modular and resistant to fire. I may add more details about his people to this post later.
