I loved the Dark Tower series so much. It was one of the few times where I felt that a case of meta author self insertion actually worked and worked well, even if it was a little weird.
Though the ending was rather depressing. :/ But I suppose that's par for the course with Stephen King. He does give fair warning and recommends not to read it.
