When you end up in the possession of an overprotective AI it doesn't take long before the excessive coddling starts.
Take a simple trip on the exterior of an icebound station for routine equipment checks and maintenance. CRUNCH may argue that he's got plenty of insulation and a highly advanced thermal control system. He may correctly point out that it's powerful enough to let him freely spacewalk or stand inside an active incinerator without ill effect. He may even correctly point out that the calm weather and -20 C weather outside is very benign by comparison.
But despite all that rationalizing, the overprotective AI will have none of it. Not a foot out of the exterior doors without extra protection. A big puffy snowsuit filled to the brim with synthetic down, perfectly tailored to CRUNCH's exact dimensions. Even the rather modest amount of heat he puts out quickly turning it quite cozy on the inside.
But the AI decided it wasn't enough. And so a second snowsuit was put on over the top to make him even cozier before finally letting him out. Of course, all the added bulk severely restricts how much CRUNCH can move, his normal speedy steps being reduced to a glacial waddle, and his grippers can only manage simple actions, not even able to deploy tools due to being fully encased.
A simple 5 minute job was thus extended to several hours, thus justifying to the AI the merits of dressing CRUNCH up so heavily, if he's going to spend so long out in the cold...
