Tried to be all "ambitious" n'shit with the background for my 2nd-year animation, which I ended up being unable to finish. OH WELL.
This was the sequence in which it showed up: http://vimeo.com/21375412

It's always like that with first animations, don't worry *Giggles*
Background looks pretty cool though. If I may point something out though.. if it's just a static background.. well.. try not to leave the horizon 'that' flat. You can add a gentle curvature and that already makes it look a lot smoother and more realistic in terms of perspective.

Ohhh well, in that case you might want to add a bit of detail that alludes to that. Not really sure how to explain it but.. like.. when you get cliffs in old Looney Toons, where you see part of the earth kinda 'cracked' showing that the ground actually ends there, y'know, lil' details like that. 'Cause as it is it kinda looks like a road that keeps going following the globe's curvature.
Well, this is how it ended up being used: http://vimeo.com/21375412
Luckily it was only a very short shot.

Ohh not a cliff cliff, just a steep drop. That doesn't look bad, the animation itself. The part with the sun, that particular shot was pretty cool, you did a good job there.
Still, I say if you tried to give the horizon line (in both the first and the second background) a slight curvature I think it'd value the whole composition, because it kind of mimes the type of effect you get from most lenses, the kind of effect we see in movies. It values perspective and gives the action a more dynamic feeling.
The whole thing turned out good though. Good luck in future projects ^^
