Ah, but who says she was defeated even in the official storyline? We know a rainbow beam swirled down around Nightmare Moon and when it vanished, Princess Luna was there. Anyway, this is a lovely image, and I like this glimpse of an alternate continuity where Twilight's bonds of friendship weren't strong enough to overwhelm Nightmare Moon. Your art is really solid with all the right details - the rumpled mane, the dirty, possibly bruised and/or singed coat, the slightly deformed tiara, and Nightmare Moon standing triumphantly over her, horn crackling with malevolent power. And you say this isn't the finished version? Wow...
