Autumn, 1331
However the minotaurs were not the most surprising auxiliaries to arrive at Caldern.
A week later some siege engineers were studying their maps under the glow of the morning sun when the light around them suddenly dimmed. The officers pointed and yelled as five flying reptiles suddenly appeared out of the sky.
“Dragons!”
Logan was his brigade, hacking away at a tree limb to make a stake when he heard the general hubbub. The commander of the Stanton militia immediately dropped his ax and smiled, running towards the source of the commotion.
Ahead, thousands of soldiers and workers watched in awe as the dragons landed with a thunderous rumble of the earth. Marshal Grenville Dodge himself stood in front of the crowd, eyeing the dragons warily with a contingent of bodyguards. The dragons returned the guardedness: while humans and great wyrms were now allies, and this meeting had been arranged and agreed upon properly with well defined timing and coordination, both sides remained distrustful of each other. Still the Field Marshal nodded.
“Summon the king!” He ordered.
As the great wyrms sat upon their haunches like statues, King Owin scrambled up with his escort. Now armed with crossbows and large sabers to supplement their polearms after the previous meeting with the great wyrm, the Royal Guards nevertheless still remained nervous, and silently tried keeping their liege back against the massive threats arrayed before them.
King Owin however brushed his troops aside.
“A king should be brave enough to face any potential friend, regardless of danger. If my vassals are willing to die for me, then I should be willing to perform all of my royal duties, regardless of danger.”
With that, the Auxian ruler stepped out to meet the dragons. Marshal Dodge raised an eyebrow as his liege walked by but said nothing.
Despite a slight hint of hesitation, King Owin advanced proudly and regally alone towards the great wyrms . The powerful reptiles towered overhead, watching the human leader's every movement. Then the king stopped, and the great bronze dragon in front slowly moved one hindleg to rest upon his knee, lowered his torso and then bowed his head.
The entire field around Caldern broke into cheers, the calls echoing across the landscape. While the other four dragons looked around nervously at all the humans, Mera smiled.
He had held up his end of the agreement.
No matter what else, the World Shaman had been saved and his people freed from Other Man thralldom. That was worth some minor displays of subservience.

By the third cheer Logan had forced his way through the crowds that had formed a circle around the dragons and stepped out to face the wyrms. Immediately a red dragon made a warning growl at him, only to be silenced by a short responsive snort from Meratezatgh, who then leaned over to greet his old friend with a smile.
“Only five dragons, Mera?” The Forester asked aloud.
The bronze wyrm nodded.
“Where are the others?”
The dragon commander grumbled in response.
Logan nodded. “They wanted no part in this fight. Those of us here, do.” He translated.
Marshal Dodge also stepped forward. He was clearly disappointed by the meager turnout, but the commander of the New Army managed to raise a shallow facade of a smile.
“Well, if they all fight as ferociously as you do, Dragon Lord of Stanton, we will win this battle.”
Mera nodded.
As the words were translated back Hthersarw looked at the bronze dragon quizzically.
*How did they know you are now a lord?* The copper wyrm asked. *And what is Stanton?*
*Stanton’s my home-* Mera replied with a shrug, *-and humans love making nobility out of everyone with an ounce of authority.*
