This Saturday 3/8/25 starting at 5:30pm Pacific I'll be celebrating on Picarto one of the earliest influences on my art and how I viewed the world. The English director, producer, and creator Gerry Anderson.
From Thunderbirds are Go!, UFO, Space 1999, and Captain Scarlet and Mysterons. Until the movie Stars Wars a New Hope came out these TV series had the most profound effect on my art and many other creative endeavors.
That's why I decided to draw Rarity in 60s Mod Fashion in front of FAB-1. A combination of one of the earliest properties to influence me combined with one of the latest.
So this weekend I'll be getting back to my roots. Presented in Supermareionation! Pun intended.

Space:1999 had a very profound influence on Star Wars. That opening with the Rebel Blockade Runner being chased down by the Star Destroyer I'm very certain was inspired by a similar underside shot from "War Games" with the huge bomber making a run on the defenseless Alpha Moonbase.
But without the strikingly close similarity between the original Millennium Falcon design and the Eagle Transporter, and Lucas forcing a near last hour redesign, we'd have never gotten the iconic saucer-shaped Falcon we know and love today.
UFO, was way too far ahead of its time. A dark show with lots of moral gray area, and showing The Conspiracy from the its POV. The whole "aliens are coming to experiment and harvest our organs" would've been right at home in 1990s TV, like "The X-Files". And lots of anime and mangakas have been very open about the show's influence: the all-female Moonbase controllers and commanders, like Lt. Gay Ellis. in their tight outfits and purple wigs definitely had a huge impact on shows like "Macross" with their all-female bridge staff for the SDF-1.
The world's sci-fi fans owe a huge debt to the late Gary Anderson and his wife Sylvia.
