Here you can see the boss like structures I needed to have so the shields were not just foam with my fist in the middle to slam into people. That would be bad form. As well as the extra weight I put on the shields to try and have the Gorilla Glue hold those handle structures in there and make them good and secure. Which worked very well!
Also pro tip from me to you, put paper towels or paper or cardboard or /anything/ between the structure you are glueing and the work bench table. Elsewise your project will be glued together well but also glued to the table. That was a nerve wracking twenty minutes of slow pulling and cutting trying to save the shields. The tape is not structural. More so to cover the kind of sharp glue remnants that is still on some of the PVC/fiberglass handle.
And once the handles were glued in the next step was a cover! These fabrics were purchased from Joan-Anns Fabrics (RIP) during their closure more so because it was what I could get that was left from the super busy store but I got some orange. I wanted orange the most. And so the Moon and Dorito were born! Named from my fellow Amtgard players. To attach the covers there is elastic cord running around the edge through a sewn seem. Both ends are then fed through a cord holder that you press down on to open it. One of those small cylenders with a hole that is closed by default but pushing down opens them. Before you pull those cords as tight as you can to close them around the back of the shields. Before letting out some slack so the shield doesnt start to bend too much - again I should have used the two inch foam. But with that finished the shields were done! And went out for two days of use successfully and the other players really liked them. So then it was time to try and make them look nicer!
