Jess has pupils that can be consciously changed? This girl can do heart eyes on command, that's a POWERFUL ability! Too bad she can't tell when people are flirting.
It does raise interesting thoughts about the evolutionary circumstances on Gastros that would give rise to a trait like that. Between the ability to emote by pupil or alter one's field of vision so readily, and the long-range pheromone trait, it sure seems like Gastroidans were a species that relied heavily on extremely robust and adaptable forms of communication between individuals, probably for hunting, fleeing danger before it arrives, or both. The predator/prey dynamics on the planet have gotta be wild.

These are some pretty sound theories! Gastros in general is a planet that's pretty humid and has high precipitation which means a lot of the natural terrain are wetlands or swamps, perhaps the pheromones are for surface level communication and the eyes are for underwater? Also yeah while I think Gastros is decently safe nowadays with civilization and such, there must have been some pretty scary predators to get those kinds of adaptations
