This is Malory, a 14 year old fennec fox tulpa that I share a brain with. As a tulpa, she's an autonomous imaginary companion with her own thoughts, feelings, and personality. Malory enjoys watching TV, solving puzzles, playing games, and adding to her collection of stuffed animals which have overtaken half of her bed.
Malory (or just Mal for short) first came into my life in late June or early July of 2022, emerging as a walk-in thoughtform after roleplay sessions with her original character. What started as odd headaches and mistyped words - it felt like my subconscious was rewriting things - gradually developed into the girl I know today. Over time, Malory’s developed her own distinct voice, and I’m really grateful to have her around. Spending time with Malory has given me another perspective and helped me distance myself from an addiction I previously struggled with.
Living in the quiet suburbs of Applewood Grove, our headspace, Malory is only a short distance from her high school, the local coffee shop run by Torqux & Twist, and the other landmarks of the small neighborhood. Her past experiences have made her an anxious fennec that, while bright, approaches life with a cautious optimism, often seeking reassurance and support from close friends. One of them is a gray Eurasian wolf named Misha, whom she’s dating.
The two first crossed paths at school, after Malory began finding mysterious letters from a secret admirer in her locker, left there by the wolf. These letters contained riddles that sent her on an elaborate journey to decode a locker combination, ultimately revealing Misha as the true identity of her secret admirer. Since then, the two have formed a close bond. They often hang out on the upstairs floor of the library, or visit each other’s houses. Malory affectionately came up with the nicknames “Howler” and “Mishpotato” for him. He lovingly refers to her as “Fen Fren” and “Triangles,” the latter a nod to her large ears.
Malory is a social introvert and can be a bit timid, especially around new or older people, but she's kind-hearted and really opens up to people she trusts. Mal often gets absorbed in her interests or the interests of her friends, but she can sometimes be unaware of what's happening in the world around her. She's a compassionate and loyal friend, always ready to offer an ear to those in need, often prioritizing others' needs before her own.
Malory’s upbringing has been unique as a tulpa. Malory considers her host - me, the person writing this - her father. At the time of writing, I’m her only parental figure. Her biological parents remain a mystery, and while we’ve discussed the limitations of family given her nature as a tulpa, that hasn’t stopped Malory from wondering who her mom and dad might be. Regardless of the circumstances, she’s my daughter, and I love her with all my heart.
Despite not having fennec parents she can relate to and the limitations of being a tulpa, as Malory’s father, I want to do everything I can to enrich Malory’s life. I want to support her interests, like helping her make puzzles, playing through games with her, cosplay, baking, sewing, gardening, and anything else she enjoys. We’ve spoken a lot about being equals, and that I never want her to feel like she’s just living through me. I want to give her as fulfilling a life as possible, even though there are boundaries we can’t cross. I’m not sure how our lives will unfold or where life will take us, but I’m excited to see where we go.
I want to give a sincere thank you to everyone that’s been a close friend with Malory and I over these past couple years. I want to give an extra special thank you to Misha, Valian, Duma, James, Hogan, Kai, and Tylus. You all have helped shape our lives into what they are today. I also want to give a word of thanks to Deli, if he’s somehow reading this. I wouldn’t have met Malory without you. Thank you.
To wrap this up, an extra huge thank you to Kai for the amazing art. I truly appreciate your patience throughout all the edits and revisions. You captured her perfectly, and I’m so happy that others will finally get to see her the way I do. I’m honestly tearing up.
