This one's been stuck in dev hell for a very, very long time (since May of 2024!). The DC-7 is one of my favorite propliners of all time, and I wanted to do one. Originally this was going to be part of a larger drawing/advertisement poster for Vulp-Air, a fictional fox themed airline I originally made up for TriStar, but I never ended up fully completing it because I got bored of drawing dials.
It was very difficult to find good reference data for all this, so the cockpit and related details are primarily based on the DC-7 cockpit in the Smithsonian, which there's a panoramic camera view of and the PMDG DC-6 for MSFS, since the cockpits are similar enough and I couldn't find a DC-7 specific source. Dial display data is sourced primarily from the Wright R-3350 service manual. Some minor dials were/are very difficult to find info/usable references of, which is part of the reason this project has been on hiatus since about August of 2024. (Free) sources for the DC-7 pilot's manual are welcome.
I'm still very much happy with the way what did end up getting done turned out, and lighting-wise this is probably my best drawing of all time to date. Due to FA upload limits this is a downscale which is losing some detail on the dials and such, which I spent a very long time trying to pin down.
A red fox dressed in a golden-age era pilot's uniform (think Pan Am), sat in the cockpit of a Douglas DC-7 in flight. The sky is blue and orange/yellow lighting enters from the cockpit windows.
Made in GIMP with a mouse since May of 2024, originally on version 2.10
