Why should Virmir care? He isn’t obligated to waste any more of his time helping strangers after being forced into a contract that wasn’t what he actually intended to agree to.
All Virmir was looking for was a new hiking trail, and to set up a security line to avoid any more unwanted ambushes, and was pestered by fae when looking at a decent rock.
While Virmir didn’t intend to destroy the fae hive, he did want to run them off before they invaded his tower. The fae crossed one too many lines after forcing him into a one sided contract. They should have realised how dangerous Virmir was after smelling traces of dragon on him, and either left immediately, or stopped him there and then.

Call it a shot in the dark, but I don't think we've seen the last of those plants from a few pages back that Virmir "created". Hell, it'd be funny if it comes back to haunt him by....say, those plants growing into a thicc fem-Virmir shaped being that is basically their daughter. Complete with all the usual fun of having to deal with that, but as also the one thing Virmir can't just burn down and avoid responsibility/non-status quo with because fae magic nonsense.
Plus, Virmir having to realize he can't just solve every problem by burning it or just magic-ing it away no matter how hard he tries to keep a slice of life status quo will be funni.
