Aside from its corruption spray making maneuvering a bit dicey indeed for others, it actually is the key to some great planty strategy. Those trails and patterns being traced on the ground all seeming to just interconnect, that's not random, that's a path to victory. Wherever the lines do fall, a movement so rapid it could be mistaken for teleportation by some can be done. It sure beats running, as who's really got the spare energy for that anyway?
