those cutting boards melt at high temps i would not advise using it.

It sits on the intake manifold, that thing doesn't get very hot :/ Plus I just took a piece of it and put a lighter under it. It took a few seconds of full on flame to do much too it and even then it just melted the thinest edges of it. I would use another bakelite one if I could get one. They seem to be a hard part to find.

well if it gets over 150 it will melt. and engines get at least that. if not more..

Isnt a lighter flame quite a bit more than 150? 0.o Besides, like I said, the carburator is mounted to the air intake. The air is like the coolest thing connected to the engine block. also, we are talking about delrin and not nylon.

My cars intake manifold has coolant hoses going to it, to warm it up. I guess they had a problem with it being too cold and causing problems, so they just hooked up hot water to get it warm.

Also yeah i think Delrin melts at like 347° F. Vehicle thermostats generally open at around 180°-200° F. :3

no it only takes 150 I KNOW THIS FROM PESONAL EXPERENCE it freaking melted to my eletric stove lol i had the oven at 150 for baking some clay and it was sitting over the vent for the oven x.x i didnt think it was gonna melt but it did right into the eletric stove coyal.

I wonder if perhaps you were using a board made out of a different material.

Are you sure it was Delrin? o.O I'm positive it melts at 347° because i work in the food service industry and deal with delrin pretty much every day i work. Never had it even come close to melting. D:

yes im positive it was delrin. and im positive it melted at 150 degrees.

Did you use a computerized milling machine, or do it by hand?

I wish I had a CNC. I do all my fabrication of everything with my hands and my limited selection of power tools. This involved a bandsaw, drill, dremal and a needle file.

That's pretty slick, though the OE spacer on the left is a metal right? What kind of engine is it going onto? (I-6/V-8?)

ITs actually made of plastic. Phenolic or Bakelite though the texture leads me to think bakelite. If it were metal I would have made the new one out of aluminum or something. I am going off the assumption that perhaps this part was supposed to compress slightly in order to work. The engine its going into is the original 170 ci strait 6 that was rebuilt before we bought the car.

Oh, they will be coming. I repaired the broken springs in the front seat last night after having a hell of a time bleeding the breaks. I need to get a new pull handle for the E-break, I am thinking of just making one with the walnut stock I just got a hold of. then we gotta gotta get seat covers, new flooring, etc etc etc....

It's going to be a while before we can repair all the things that happened to this poor car from sitting around in a garage since 2002. Worth it though.
