So I made a character that sometimes shot people but only with stun setting when things get a bit hairy... and once, we were playing talking to a vulcan, and I grabbed the toy phaser on the table and pretended shooting the GM... what are you doing he asked ? I told him I was shooting the "vulcan" which, as I had suspected, was planning to trigger a trap because he was a romulan spy and I had guessed from the visual, story and our investigation clues that he was.
