The traveling trio left behind a very volatile explosive called a Bakuhatsu suru seishin, which should be roughly translated as (Exploding Spirit). The turtle, the crane, and the butterfly escape into the swamp through a teleportation portal and must continue their journey of survival.

UPDATE: I updated the red mask Tengu Hunter leader in the strips this character appears in to have a large mouth and nostrils, because I'm building up a surprise that is pivotal to the plot of the first episode.
