Perhaps, but there were at least a couple episodes in the anime that showed, at the very least, that Charizard's flame is directly related to its state of health. So even if a Charizard can recover from that, it's probably not very good for it.

Yeah the state of their flame reflects their health but if it's unknown if the reverse is true. Depends on if their flame is actually like a vital part of them or not; at the very least it might cause discomfort

Yeah, but there's likewise no reason to assume that it being extinguished wouldn't be fatal. Since the flame persists from form to form, it would make sense that the flame continues to serve that same function. It's more likely that it simply becomes a lot harder to extinguish, and therefore is less of an issue for Charizard than Charmander.

Well, we know from the series that Ash's Charizard was once completely submerged in Water.
It didn't harm him at all, if I remember correctly.
So yes, we can assume that "Dead Char = No Flame" but "No Flame =/= Dead Char"

That just means that he was able to endure it, being strong enough to keep the flame from extinguishing despite it being underwater for a brief time. It evidenced that the flame isn't as easy to extinguish as a normal fire, because it's linked to the Pokemon's life force.

Ok so imagine the flame as a reflection of the Charizards health. The flame going out for a moment only means it will come back if it’s healthy.

The flame being out for an extended period of time means that the Charizard is in bad health.

The flame's size is represented by Charizard's health. It's even emphasized on a couple occasions when Charizard is in poor health, that the flame is either struggling to stay lit, or has shrunken considerably. And as a representation of health, nothing would equate to death. Or, at the very least, being on the brink of death.

It may be able to come back if it's extinguished for a moment, but I would equate that to suffering something akin to a heart attack.

The flame is a visual sign of health. Health effects flame not the other way around

Except that it was explained with Charmander that effects on the flame also affect health. And there's no reason to assume Charmeleon and Charizard to be any different, when we clearly see instances of the flame and health still being connected. It goes both ways.

The Buizel and Charizard part almost feels like a revenge piece for Biuzel, considering that Pokémon comic of yours where a transportation Charizard swallows the Biuzel treasure Hunter.

Yeah I was thinking about that there (and on that same note Charizard has been shown underwater with its flame lit), but I guess for Charmander it still hurts or its life really does depend on it

According to Pokedex, the flame is their life force, Charizard simply has evolved for it to only work one way
