The stag beetle (Lucanus cervus), ready to fight for females against other males or stupid photographers :D He attacked my camera, really. He was a very brave bug.

They are similar ferrocious, but aren't the rhinos and the stag beetles are in different group of bugs?

I have seen one or two times rhino beetles in my whole life.. I hope I will find more :) I am more lucky with stag beetles, they live around in the hills :)

Yea i just looked a bit more at the beetle... irhinos have a large hammer like protrusion XD
best i can describe it. But this is a cool shot that you got very well done

^^ your welcome yea they are fascinating... an being a girl liking most bugs *giggles* some ppl look at me crazy. i used
to have some leaf bugs in science class in HS back in 01 - easily cleared the hallway with one on my hand! Football players
would meep an walk a wide circle away from me ROFLOL hilarious!

LOL, I was the same. I don't get frightened of the bugs and snails and snakes.. I like them since my childhood, I was a crazy lady in the school, who liked these "disgusting" things.

We don't know if he had a fight with other males or were hit by a bicicle. Some riders go into the wood for the fresh air and for the downhill.. I hope he won great fights :)

What kind of beetles do you have around? :) The smaller can be awesome too with bright and interesting colors or with strange shape :)

Ha ha yeah they can ^^ a lot of interesting staphylinid beetles I gotta admit, some cool looking ones, and some cool Carabidae, nice green tiger beetles, but nothing that big and interestingly shaped, I've always loved the large scary ones XD!

There used to be lots of Carabidae around here too, but I saw them only in my childhood. We have some Longhorn beetles now, lot's of Lady-bug (is there any place where they are absent?).

Ah cool :3! Nice, yeah we've got a bit of those but nothing to impressive to mention X3, ha ha I don't think so, they're everywhere! XD

That is one impressive set of horns, even for a stag beetle. If I saw one, I think I'd be overwhelmed by the urge to provoke it into attacking my finger.

I used macro options for the photo. The beetle were posing long enough, he tried to frighten me, and if I were a predator, I would be frightened :)

Lucky for me, he were mostly standing in this pose, so I had time to set my camera

Still al lUI get are these WIERD things with 2 inch long bodies and 4 inch long legs. and there are so AMNY legs that it looks fuzzy! They're just WIERD and I dunno what they're called!!

I don't know for sur. He must have lost in in a fight with an other male or a bird/dog/etc attacked him, or maybe a bycicle have hit him (we found him standing on a footpath, were crazy bikers go down from the hill.

I took him out of the path, into the green, and I hope, he survived long enoug for mating. He was a nice big bug :)
