Squandered felt the rough sand underneath his paws. It was agitating to feel, for certain, but he couldn’t let that deter him. He’d climbed over mountains, slunk through valleys, and hiked through treacherous deserts in search of one thing. His mlem.
Squandered had started to forget what his mlem looked like. He only had one item of theirs left. He didn’t want his memory of the mlem to go away, so he held onto this item tightly. It sheltered him in the cold, helped him through the heat, and gave him comfort when he was scared.
Squandered lifted a hand to his mouth and yelled, “Mlem-mlem?! Where’d you go?” At this point, he knew his calls would be in vain. He’d tried calling out the name of his love for so long that the name itself began to sound like nonsense.
Squandered felt his eyes tear up. He saw a tumbleweed pass by. Its mere presence was enough to let Squandered know he was alone out here. Not a single soul in sight. He truly was alone.
He cupped his hands over his eyes and sobbed. “I’m sorry! I can’t find you, Mlem-mlem!” He gritted his teeth. “Please, come back, I love you!”
Squandered clenched his fists and belted out, “Why did you leave me?! I really tried so hard to be good! You’re all I’ve wanted, and now you’re gone. Mlem-mlem, I LOVE YOU!”
Squandered’s cries were met with the empty silence of the desert. He wiped the tears from his eyes. “I love you-”
“Squandered!” A loud voice interrupted Squandered’s thoughts. He straightened his posture in surprise. Before him, he could finally see his goal. The familiar, rounded shape of his black and green love was staring down at him. Though his love looked angry, Squandered knew that there was an air of concern behind those eyes. It was indeed his Mlem-mlem. It was Chomby.
“You okay?” Chomby asked. He was holding a newspaper in his hand with his arm over the couch. “You were yelling about trying to find me and going between rooms?” Chomby scratched the top of his head. “I really don’t understand what you were doing, since I haven’t left this couch since you ran off… but you started crying, and I got worried.” Chomby looked back down at Squandered and tilted his head to the side. “Again, I ask, are you okay?”
Squandered’s eyes lit up. He felt his tail begin to wag happily. Mlem-mlem was worried about him! “Mlem-mlem! My squish!” Squandered threw his hands into the air and smiled happily. “I love you~”
Chomby raised a brow. “I love you too, Fatfat.” Chomby looked between Squandered and the item Squandered was holding in his mouth. “Is that my underwear? Did you come from the bathroom to give me back my underwear… again?” Chomby rolled his eyes. “Do you want me to grab it this time or just let you run off with it again?”
Squandered looked down at the item in his mouth. He then looked back up at Chomby. “You can have it back.” Squandered took a few steps closer to the couch.
“Okay,” Chomby started to reach down to grab the underwear from Squandered’s mouth.
Squandered backed up and narrowed his eyes. His smile widened. “Muehehehe.” He spun around and ran off with the underwear.
Chomby sighed and lifted his hand up to the newspaper and opened it again. “I’ll never understand what’s going on in that little gremlin’s head.” He did his best to smile and called out, “Love you, Squandered!”
Squandered peeked his head out of the bathroom door with the underwear still in his mouth. “I love you, too, Mlem-mlem!”

Squandered has a tendency to be a little gremlin. Since Chomby usually doesn't wear clothes (he has no need), he doesn't feel a necessity to wear them unless he's performing. Squandered decided to get Chomby a pair of underwear. Though Chomby accepted it, Squandered has ultimately stolen it and owrn it more than Chomby has. Chomby says it's basically Squandered's at this point.
