For those who have been wondering what I've been doing when it comes to artwork... The answer is, a lot. This is yet another book of mine, and between the book cover and the interior, it was 25 illustrations. 24 of which I can't show because they have to be published in the book and only the book and not shown online. Talk about a lot of time wasted. Then again, I also make the rules on this, for once, since this is also my first self-published book. I might put up a few later. Who knows.
Regardless. Book cover. Beautiful Dreamer is a MG/YA sci-fi/action light novel. Or at least, I'm going to call it all that since it's meant for 11+ and features chapter images that revolves around a plot where main character (Ruta) is trapped in the Dreamverse dimension by the comically supervillain amount of baddies and hoping to escape with the help of her equally comically extravagant Selves. At some point there is a Treasure Planet-like pirate spaceship and ugh... my brain. This book was such a mash of nuts, like Ready Player One levels of Sonic The Hedgehog, Donkey Kong Country (yes, there is a Rambi), Megaman, and every Marvel thing you can think of. I was bored. I like writing fight scenes. Bight me. But also meant conveying the Beautiful Dreamer theme + that in a cover meant... oh wait, pirate ship. Yee...
Painting the space bit was easy. Slap my usual Chaotica stock around a thousand times, and already it looks awesome. The Citadel (white spire) was a Maya render, because my brain was too dumb for that level of geometry painting. Painting people is my usual, but since character is 15 and in scrubs for the her universe's segments, then it's not as pretty as I'd like but at least it's canon and appropriate. Spaceship was harder to paint ironically than my screaming dislike of the pirate ship. Not sure why even. But one took longer than the other, and it's not the one you'd think. Hopefully this is dynamic and interesting enough to warrant a look. At least Reddit noted it does have the classic 70s/80s sci-fi book vibes. In which cases... GOALS!
