broadsiders are a common style of military hull design prioritizing having as many guns as possible pointed toward the enemy while still trying to minimize the cross-section and maximize the armor slope of your ship that's exposed to enemy fire. although such ships may resemble sailboats, especially with their radiators extended, it's actually the "keel" (or keel+nose) that points toward the enemy while the radiators ("sails") and other squishy hardware are protected behind, on the "deck".

i definitely recommend studying the ships and machines from Homeworld, 70s scifi book covers and 80s-90s anime as they're great examples of design principles that are pretty universally applicable across any kind of design
