I did another single-Pokemon playthrough, this time being a randomizer of Platinum using only a Magmar named Dankmar :3
My starter options for this one were Omastar, Horsea, and Magby, and while I chose not to use Omastar due to me having used Omastar before, I've never used either Horsea or Magby before, so I used a random number generator to pick between the two of them, and I ended up rolling Magby (...the unfortunate part is that regardless of which of the two I got, I would never be able to get their final evolution due to them both requiring specific items and being traded :3). I also played with the same rules as the previous single-Pokemon randomizer I did, and Dankmar started with Compoundeyes as an ability (Mold Breaker after he evolved) and Powder Snow and Dark Pulse as starting moves. Him starting with Dark Pulse and it looking like Magby and Magmar are wearing chokers are where I got the name Dankmar and the idea for how I drew him from, and I over the course of the entire playthrough never got access to a single fire type move that he could learn, so I got the headcanon that Dankmar chose the path of darkness due to him not being able to learn any fire type moves :3 All of the moves he ended up with were also either Cool or Beauty moves in the contests and Dankmar also likes dry poffins, and I for some reason picked up four blue scarves plus a red scarf during the playthrough, so I ended up getting master rank in both Cool and Beauty contests with him :3
The playthrough itself was probably the easiest of all the Gen 4 single-Pokemon playthroughs I've done, mainly due to Dankmar getting access to a pretty good set of moves and all of the main story battles being randomized to be really easy, with the most threatening Pokemon among them being a Lileep Bertha had that depleted most of Dankmar's health with Endeavor and theoretically could have beaten him, but I still got through it fairly easily.
It also felt like there weren't as many funny moments in this randomizer playthrough as the first one I did, but there were quite a few interesting quirks I noticed throughout the game due to it being randomized. For example, Prof. Rowan has special dialogue for when you evolve your starter before getting the Pokedex, but he still said it when I got to him despite not having evolved Dankmar yet, meaning that the game doesn't check for whether or not you've evolved the Pokemon and instead checks the Pokemon's species and gives you the special dialogue if it's anything other than one of the vanilla starters. There's also a setting in the randomizer that makes it so that your rival will always have one of the three randomized starting Pokemon on their team which I had on for both this playthrough and the previous randomizer I did, so my rival ended up having Omastar on all of his teams, but a side effect of that in this game is that Dawn/Lucas get the third starter that neither you or your rival pick during the double battles with them. However, I noticed that during the catching tutorial, Dawn still had a Chimchar (albeit with a randomized moveset), so Dawn/Lucas can only have the vanilla starter they would have for that battle specifically, and neither Giratina or Mesprit where randomized either (although that could potentially be different depending on the settings or the specific randomizer you play). Also, did you know that there's a special jingle that plays when you pick up mail in this game? I don't think there's ever an instance in the vanilla game where you pick mail up off of the ground, so that soundclip goes completely unheard normally but can be heard in randomizers due to it being possible for some items to be replaced with mail.
