*Theme: Isekai, Furry/Fursuit, Suiting, Anthro, ScifiFor most people, including me, life was boring and the daily routines I had were a repetitive pattern. Every night, I would sit in bed, scrolling through furry art, stories and memes on Reddit, trying to escape the monochromy of reality. It was during those times of relaxation that I wished I could just slip into another reality where everyone was in their anthropomorphic animal forms, where they could express feelings through their constantly shifting ears and wagging tail. I yearned to be one of them so badly, a gray wolf in particular since I had one as my fursona. I stared at the ceiling and prayed for a change in my life, a fluffier reality to revel in, closing my eyes to see the familiar darkness welcome me to my subconsciousness.
When I awoke with a yawn, everything was different to my astonishment. I was in someone else’s bedroom. It had colorful posters of anthropomorphic animals singing and dancing, alongside music band names that I have never heard before. Most of them were furry versions of the bands I knew. On the nightstand beside me, a book sat with a title, “The World of the Fluffy,” along with a note researching a world filled with furry bipedal creatures and how they lived with anthro technology. Someone was researching the desired world I wanted to exist in, but after seeing everything laid out in the room, I could very well be in that reality myself. However, I was still human instead of being an anthro, which was an utter disappointment.
Once I stepped outside of the strange apartment I was in, my guess was confirmed before my very eyes as I saw anthropomorphic animals sauntering about. I was in the World of the Fluffy. I strolled barefooted on the concrete streets, immediately feeling uneasy as every bipedal animal around me shifted their gaze toward me like I was a weirdo, some raising eyebrows at me. A few of them gasped and pointed at me, and I overheard them whispering about me and calling me the “fluffless one.” Since I was only in a T-shirt and shorts I slept in, I could not raise a hood to hide my face or cover up my looks. I wanted to dig a hole and bury myself so badly.
Being the only human in a furry world, I felt singled out among the other anthros. ‘Why couldn’t I be an anthro like them? Why put me in an anthro world when I, myself, can’t be fluffy?’ I contemplated as I traveled along the road aimlessly. The world was my dream to exist in, but it felt like a half-fulfilled genie’s wish. This was all wrong. Everything was wrong with this timeline I had been placed into. What was I going to do now? What is there to do? My reality was collapsing onto my body the further I wandered. With the thoughts turning into panic, I was afraid of the amount of attention I had gathered and ran aimlessly past the anthros, though no one was really pursuing me.
Upon sighting a park near me, my instincts steered me toward it. Finding a shady gazebo next to the entrance of the park, I sat under its wooden roof and began tearing up. I was lost and I knew that no other human would be in the same world as me, left alone without a plan to get myself out of the fluffy mess I was thrown into. Burying my face in my hands as I sobbed, I tried to process everything that had unfolded in the past hour, trembling and sniffling through the thoughts circling my mind like a twister.
Out of nowhere, I felt a warm, fuzzy paw press gently on my back, shifting up and down my spine to soothe me like a caring mother. I lifted my head to the friendly feminine face of an anthro cheetah, tilting her head at me as her long, auburn hair fluttered in the wind. “Is anything wrong?” She asked in a gentle tone, trying not to scare me further. “I-I…” With all the shock I had to endure today, I could not handle any more mental stress and froze up, collapsing onto the ground and blacking out instantly.
When I regained consciousness again, I was in a dotted, minty-green hospital gown and nothing else underneath. As I sat up, I noticed that in the shared hospital ward, other anthro animal patients had their eyes still gazing upon me, causing me to shudder in unease. Soon, I saw an anthro squirrel nurse walking beside the cheetah lady from before.
“Oh dear! You’re awake. Luckily, Spots found you and carried you here before anything serious happened to you. Come darling, it’s time for your fluffy treatment.” The nurse’s long bushy tail wrapped around my body like a silky comforter and embraced me, leaving me blushing in embarrassment, yet more relaxed than I was. “Who… Wha-?” I muttered, still slightly drowsy from waking up. After releasing me from her soft embrace, she pointed a finger up and uttered, “Hang on… Lemme get you something to change into! You may speak to Spots while waiting.”
Once the nurse rushed out of the ward, the cheetah lady gave me a cheerful grin. “How are you feeling?” I scratched my head and dipped my chin a little. “I’m feeling fine, I guess. Thank you for saving me, Spots.” She gave me a thumbs up, adding more words of assurance, “I’m getting you discharged and letting you stay at my place till we fix this mess I’ve accidentally got you tangled with.”
“Umm… So, what happened to me?”
“I’m the director of Fluff Tech, where we create all things for Fluffies and occasionally, for humans if they ever do pop into our world. We were testing an interdimensional device in our Fluff Tech lab’s breakthrough and accidentally swapped you and Ashen, one of our colleagues who’s a wolf. Ashen’s a technological genius and I’m sure he'll get you back home once he returns.”
“So, I’ll be stuck here for now?”
“Yup! You’ll be stuck on planet Fluff until Ashen comes back or one of us replicates his results of interdimensional travel. For the moment, you’ll have to fit in with us Fluffies, so I’ve prepared something specially for you.”
The nurse returned in a few minutes, holding some kind of fur-covered wolf suit that had paws attached where my hands and feet would be in the outfit. I received it from the squirrel nurse and held it in front of me. I was a little hesitant to wear it, but it was the only article of clothing available in the unknown world. “It’s a wolf-model Fluff Tech suit, or to simply put it in human terms, a wolf fursuit. It stretches to your body shape and you can fit in with one of us. It has all-in-one nanotech to ensure you’re comfortable wearing it, self-cleaning, and even has a nano temperature adjusting system sewn into the fabric. Go get changed! I’ll wait for you here.”
I nodded in acknowledgment and headed to the nearest bathroom, surprised that it still looked similar to human ones. In one of the stores, I took off the hospital gown and placed it aside, unzipped the back of the suit before I paused. I realized that I did not have anything to wear under the suit, but I shrugged and believed that it was alright since it was self-cleaning, slipping the form-fitting fursuit over my body. Upon zipping up the back of the suit, I popped the wolf head over my own to complete the look.
Through the lenses of the wolf mask, I could see the world clearly, if not clearer than normal. In the fursuit head, the ears of the suit picked up on subtle sounds and amplified them for my human ears inside. It was like I was a wolf despite not going through any sort of transformation. I walked out of the bathroom store I was in and checked out the fursuit over my body. At my rear and front, the fur hid every contour perfectly even without me wearing anything underneath. I tested some facial expressions at the mirror below the fursuit head, and like an anthro, the face of the wolf mimicked every subtle wiggle of eyebrows, nose and mouth in every emotion I made. With a new confident wolf stride in the new paw shoes of the suit, I made my way back to Spots with the folded hospital gown, who was sitting on the bed I woke up on.
“Oh, hey! You look fancy! How’s my fancy wolf doing?”
“I’m fine, I guess! Arf!” I answered with an unexpected addition of a happy bark emitted from the wolf head. Behind, my suit’s tail was wagging on its own accord.
“Well, I can see you’re happy with the suit. And, I’m gonna let you keep it, even after you return to Earth. It’s… my little apology for inconveniencing you here. You’re discharged! Follow me!”
Back on the street, I had gathered less attention from the residents than before, though some still snuck a gaze at me since I looked weird as a clothesless wolf. Spots chuckled, reassuring me, “It’s fine. Most of us Fluffies on Fluff wear clothes, even as there are no laws against being au naturel. I’ll teach you how to live among us in the meantime.” While I gave a faint nod in response, my suit’s tail swished vigorously. I was eager to see what the World of the Fluffy had in store for me.<<<Next: Part 2 - Living Among Anthros
