Something about the crisp, cool winter air was refreshing to Whisper- even if her friends did not always agree with her logic…and why she insisted on dragging them out when it was below freezing outside.
She could hear Lane muttering alongside her as he tried to keep up with her while trying to stay warm-
“Oi, it is not that cold is it? Fine, we can hang out here at the park.” She ushered him to sit on a bench, brushing the snow off the seat.
With a sigh of relief, Lane settled down, before quizzically looking up at Whisper, who stood up once more, “What are you…?”
“Happy birthday!” she said, holding out a small, carefully wrapped box.
Lane raised an eyebrow. "What’s this? And where were you hiding it?! I have been you ALL day!"
“Just open it," she urged, nudging it in his direction. He was just as stubborn, if not worse, than she was, and knew this inquisition would go on all night if she didn’t interject.
Lane didn’t say anything for a moment; he just stared at the gift in disbelief, and then smiled-
“You really didn’t have to," he murmured
Whisper laughed lightly, her eyes sparkling. “It’s nothing. You’ve been there for me so many times. I figured this was the least I could do.”
Lane stepped forward and hugged her, a little awkwardly at first, then with more warmth. "Best gift ever," he whispered.
“You…did not even open your gift?” Whisper looked at him somewhat confused-
“I do not mean the gift, silly.”
Christmas/birthday gift for my dear friend lanefurno.
I want to give a shoutout to my friends: every winter they have to deal with Whisper and her love of extreme cold temperatures: be it long walks or runs in the snow, snowball fights, or just standing out in the cold because it “feels nicer than it is inside…” to her.
They manage (don’t ask me how; they just DO). It’s fine; they have fur…fur keeps furries warm, right? RIGHT.
