I've been a fan of Subnautica since its early access days, so why am I just now making fanart of it? Cause something awesome happened in my current playthrough.
I was going to release a fish I didn't like (the Mesmer) near the Aurora-aka Reaper territory-to be eaten. Unfortunately, a Reaper was already close by, and it didn't take kindly to me getting so close.
It chased me twice, once when I got there, and again right after I released the Mesmer. I swam straight back to my base without a second thought, hoping I'd be safe, and then I realized…the Reaper left its territory, and was getting dangerously close to the base. I could see it out the windows it was so close!
I'm sure it was a a glitch that allowed the Reaper to leave its territory like that, but glitches or not, this beast had a grudge against me. Not only was my base in trouble but the two Cuddlefish I hatched (I named them Stevie and Jerry) were in danger of being eaten if the Reaper got any closer.
I wasn't gonna let that happen, so I armed myself with a stasis rifle and thermoblade, and met the Reaper head-on in battle.
It bit a chunk out of my health, and the fight ended up taking so long I was running out of air. When I reached the 30 second time limit, though, I finally killed it.
I forgot if this was the first time I killed a Reaper Leviathan or not, but either way, holy s*it that was cinematic! I was out of breath as I watched the Reaper's body drift down to the ocean floor, a Biter even came over to investigate it. It probably ate good for a while.
After such an epic event, of course I had to draw my opponent! The Reaper was clearly out for my blood, so I added some sinister touches and even gave it a name: the Red Beak.
Yeah that's not a very good name, but it popped in my head the second I thought the battle over, so its staying.
