"Take me to that place where
No man will meet my eyes
Take me to that room where
All life has ceased to exist
And don't look back..."
(Throne of Chaos - Pervertigo)
Toilivir again.
These are pretty weird images to introduce the character, but I still want to post them as my newest work with him (not counting the headshot on paper I did seven years ago).
In the legends of the native people of Maknar (the area where the events of "Risk Takers" story take place), Adelar/Adelaro is an asbract force that is capable and must destroy all that exists. This ancient concept, often associated with natural disasters, diseases, pestilence and other phenomena that could take the lives of many people, was also applicable to energy (or magnetority). Unstudied and unpredictable, energy was considered dangerous. It was forbidden to use without special need.
Why am I writing about this here, under images of the character who lived much later than the time when these legends owned minds, and energy was tried to be hidden?
He lived in a time that is much more similar to our modern times, although it's something more disordered and wrong. And he was not the first to study energy, but one of the few who dedicated his entire life to it, gave himself to it. And almost the only one in whose hands energy turned into that very truly terrible force that significantly brought the collapse closer. Toilivir became that very Adelaro. And this was not an accident or the result of someone's evil intent. He really wanted it.
At the beginning of his path, he sought to study energy so that it could serve people, not harm them. He saw in it a path that would lead people out of the darkness into the light. But over time, his views changed, and he stopped believing that humanity was capable of emerging from the darkness. He became more of a madman who looks at the suffering of the world and wants to stop it in the most accessible way.
These images don't reveal him well enough as the scientist and the man who influenced the lives of hundreds of people. In fact, I only drew this to show Toilivir in the last year of his life (he died before his advanced years, at least in terms of his physical age, he was no more than 36).
He was in a deplorable state, both physically and mentally. He doubted more than ever what he had believed before, longed for the same certainty with which he had previously acted, ate little and slept poorly, and this became the reason why his congenital desease (he was a metamorph and suffered from an imbalance between his human (felid here) and feral forms) began to progress.
In these images, he seems to be imprisoned in a cell. Toilivir had never been in prison, but he had the misfortune to visit a place that resembled the worst kind of prison, and this also took its toll on him. So here you see him not at his best. Here he is mentally still imprisoned, sick and doubting, but still determined to reach his goals.
As he said, it was better for him to die so that everything around him wouldn't die. He knew he wouldn't stop, because it wasn't in his nature. He was Adelaro until the last day.
Of course, these rough notes can't tell you too much about him, but they'll tell you at least something.

The left sketch is a reference to a shot from one film.
As for the two images on the right, I like this old felid version of Toilivir with shorter fur. I don't remember why I decided to make his fur longer, but I also like his new design. Anyway, this was just an attempt to make a sketch that would look like the old version.
Thanks to everyone who read this (and sorry for my English)! 💙
