Ever since starting i.s.o., I haven't had time to put anything in the convention charity auctions. Well, that's over and done with, so now it's time to start getting back into the habit.
Anthrocon 2011's theme is "Anthropomorphic Institute of Magic", so I thought I'd run with it. Given that it's a charity piece, I'm not above pandering a little; one of my most popular older pieces involved transformation, so I figured that was worthy enough to be revisited. Plus it's an excuse for a bit of beefcake (charity auction pieces generally are required to be clean, so I can't get too suggestive). In case you're wondering, yes, the cape becomes the loincloth.
The color scheme took far longer to hash out than it should've, but oh well @.@ Blue seemed to be the best contrast for the background, but I discovered magicians never really use blue...red or purple are about it. I was worried about losing the red bits in the foreground but it worked out okay. I just now realized it's been 9 months since the last time I posted a 100% non-digitally-altered real media piece.
And yes I realize a white rabbit would've been the most logical choice, but tigers are easier to beef up.
So, if you're going to the charity auction this week, please bid! It's for a good cause, the Pittsburgh Toonseum.
This is a 95% finished scan. I added some touchups and a bit of shading to the transition phase, but I didn't bother with a rescan...just so the RL piece is diff for the winner!
[update]
I am very disappoint Anthrocon caps their charity voice auction donations--which is perfectly reasonable given the limited time available for the auction itself. So this piece did not get into the main auction, and only went to the raffle. I am glad I contributed SOMETHING but I'm certain it would've resulted in more to the charity if I'd just put it on Furbuy and donated the proceeds myself :-/ Ah well. That's life!

♫ Come, now, don't be shy! This trick's an easy one! And once it's done, you need to stick around, 'cause I need a guy to split in half! And don't be scared, it won't hurt at all. I'm a master of technique. We'll laugh, we'll cry, and when we're through, the crowd is satisfied, and me, and you. A whizz, a bang, right through the loop, and afterwards, a glow! So step on up, and smile, my boy, LET'S GIVE THESE PEOPLE A SHOW!! ♫ (-:<[ﬤ
The ring thing was a nice touch, and the look on the tiger's face is really appealing to me for some reason, I don't know why but I just like how it looks. The cape into a loincloth bit was also a nice touch, and the fact he's still wearing his top hat makes him seem more handsome.
As to the rabbit thing, there's more animals than that, and I'm pretty sure (once I saw your tags) that those two used white tigers as well.

I originally tried to make the tiger/human faces line up more, but I opted for a slimmer magician.
I seriously considered keeping the bowtie too but that just looked too Chippendale. Not that I mind that, but...
Yeah, that's why I chose the tiger. I think they might have used lions...

Well, that would depend if the hoop is a tight squeeze (flaming or not)
I figured as much (not sure though)... but that being said... that means that the tiggie's nether region is exposed (disregarding the possibility of him wearing underwear... why did I disregard it? Cause I want it that way... that's why LOL (though seriously... the underwear would be torn off like his other apparels))? Looking at the drawing.. there are no indications that his back side is covered (cloth or shadow or something)... *grins* My goodness... what kind of a show IS this "magic show" act?... uhh... and how much would the tickets cost me? Can I buy them in advance?

Yeah... I believe so. Imagine if the hoop is smaller than the one who would be jumping through it... he would have a hard time maneuvering his body through the hole of the hoop... be it flaming or not.
The key word right thar is "could be"
Now that would be something to behold. The magician is the stripper? LOL.. or the magician assists the stripper to make the strippers clothing disappear LOL

Well you have to admit that TF of this nature is indeed fun to do. :) Granted I've done a lot of TF art myself, but I've often been too sheepish to post any. :P I'll bet you expected that though. ;) But this is quite an excellent piece, Vince. The middle part probably works fine on its own, though if you chose to still detail it more, make it subtle and a blend of both side of the image to make for an eye-leading effect. :) That's my suggestion, anyway.
I dunno, I'm not really good at the TF part. I don't work a lot with human faces, so my ideal progression probably would not start with the head...but of course as a comic artist I have to go in order. I may have to play around with the concet.
I might add a touch of shading and that's all. We'll see.
Thankee!

If you posted the older version of this before anywhere and I saw it, I must have forgotten (though how I could, I have no idea).
First off: human magician looks like a combo of human Jeff and Xanatos. Which equals MURR.
The way the transformation is done with a ring in each hand/paw is very clever and well done. The way you colored the TF pose does make it look a little weird, but it certainly stands out! Also of course, yay clothing damage!
Buff white tiger, with goatee, loincloth, uncovered ass, and top hat? Soooo droolworthy.
And it's for charity, most awesome thing of all. :)

I uploaded this ages ago, and it was drawn long before it was uploaded. I forget when, but since it's mostly colored pencil and not marker, prob ~2004.

I should probably ask TF people what they like...I try to add some surrealness to a transformation progress bit, but who knows, maybe I should make it MORE polished than the finished "product?"
Danke!

Well that explains why I didn't recognize the pic. The two are nothing alike! :P Well okay, you've got the start and end figures on each side, and the TF happening in the middle, but the scenario, the looks of the guy in question, the species, even the method of TF (showing a few brief panels as opposed to being caught halfway while surrounded by the rings) are not at all the same. Naughty misleading fox!
As to "TF people" and what they like, there's no more conformity of opinions on that than there is for any other fetish in the fandom, different people like different things. Personally I really don't mind whether there is surrealism or not (I agree there should be some, since TF is such a strange thing, but whether it is there or not doesn't affect my liking of the pic), as long as the TF itself looks realistic. (The way they're growing, parts shifting, claws and teeth growing, etc.) I am also used to seeing TFs where every step is equally polished, but that doesn't mean this is the standard which you should adhere to.
I also forgot to mention: a rabbit would have been appropriate (especially if, per you, he were a beefy one), but aside from loving tigers, it's good to avoid cliches at least some of the time. :P

I'm quite familiar with how fetishes work in this fandom, thanks. And I'm a business major-- nobody said ad agencies believe ALL members of a niche behave exactly alike, but they DO inquire and perform market research to improve their products. Which is what I was doing. No one pic is going to satisfy everyone, which is why I wanted suggestions on upcoming ones.
And what? I didn't say it was a remake, I said I was revisiting transformation.

Did I offend you? I didn't mean to. :(
I was just stating why it's a bit hard for us to give you the suggestions you want. Everyone's suggestions will be different, and since as you said you can't please everyone, you can't exactly use every suggestion given to you. Sorry if that came across as pompous or too obvious...just saying, I don't exactly know how to help since my suggestions (or anyone's) wouldn't necessarily help you improve your TFs.
For what it's worth, I did say that I like TFs where you get to see more steps in the process. But since that is pretty much what most TFs are like, and probably what most TF-fans would tell you they want, I don't know if it's of any use to you. Particularly for a one-shot pic rather than a series.
And ah I see, I misunderstood, thought it was supposed to be an actual remake. My apologies.

I think an excellent job especially in the tiger as I mentioned in the detail of the hat makes him look more handsome and it is inspired by white tigers las vegas real but to me I like the color more natural feel are more masculine, really congratulate you and I love your work in the comic could barely see the ISO as it is difficult to buy over here and I hope someday you can handle a simple job that does not take away time and again is a big congratulations work
