Even more from the Cyberpunk universe! This has been such a great project to be working on with Fiona. This time I'm diving a little deeper into Cookie's story with a brand new character, the tragedy of Trevor Cooper. I've also been practicing the same hatching style that I did in my previous upload. I enjoyed it so much that I wanted to use it a little more regularly. I apologize for the length of the story this time as well, I hope you still enjoy!

Cookie's show had ended, and her meal was pretty much all finished save for some rice that had been smashed down to an overcooked paste. She threw the takeout bin away and returned to the couch, and her eyes went back to that old photo. The runner couldn't help but frown at the gaze and soft smile of her lost partner as memories flooded in her mind once again.

Trevor Cooper had a pretty typical childhood, he grew up in a large rabbit family crammed into a megabuilding complex. Started work early in life to help support his family starting out in food service and working up to bar-tending. Eventually this landed him working at a joint called "Silver Lining," pretty modest spot with nothing too fancy, but a strong and welcoming atmosphere. He was able to make a decent living there, but he longed for more. He moved on from the food industry to working with a corp as a dispatcher for their courier service. It paid a lot more and presented him with a lot more opportunity, but that feeling never went away. It was here that he met her, working as a courier for the same corp.

Cookie, in her 20s at this time, saw a light in Trevor. A break from the life working as a well worn cog in the machine. They bonded with their shared want for more out of life than simply giving your body to corpo menial jobs and eventually fading away. They wanted agency, a sense of fulfillment, they wanted freedom! After working their day jobs and weekends, the two started training together to become solos, taking merc jobs that skirted the edge of legality. Anything from flatlining some ganger gonks to stealing corp data and running it to a data drop off.

They started really making a name for themselves in the runner scene, and even started calling their gigs "dates." Soon enough they started celebrating a job well done with dinner together at the familiar "Silver Lining." Then before they knew it, Cookie was moving in with Trevor in his "humble" storage unit apartment. There weren't any windows and it was in a dangerous part of the city, but they would make it work. Years would pass and it felt like Trevor and Cookie would be living free forever taking the jobs they wanted and becoming Prospera's runner power couple. They talked about marriage, even saving up for a bigger place and starting a family out of the city!

The lone runner wiped her eyes as she noticed them full of tears, stuck inside that same apartment she moved into years ago by herself. She set the photo at her bedside before finally removing her coat, the one that was previously his.
"I'm sorry I'm not out of here like we planned. I'm sorry that I got caught up in a corp's trap with these legs. I'm sorry that I wasn't fast enough. I miss you." She gave the photo a soft smile, eyes red from her tears.
"I'm doing running again, my friend Fiona convinced me to get back in the scene. The game has changed a lot since you and I were in it, our old fixers are all gone or don't wanna work with a newbie. So we're starting easy. Just a little bag run. She was good.. Although she took a hit in the leg and started panicking while I was stitching her back up in the car. She'll get used to it, or start wearing better armor. Don't worry, I'll take care of her.." Her words started trailing off, before letting out a long sigh and laying down to rest, his side of the bed still empty.
"G'night big guy."
