But if you've read the first Xanadu series, you know it won't be for long!
Another character from the first Xanadu series that a lot of the fans loved, Firepetal was a Golden Dragon and deeply in mutual love with Kinomon. Through a convoluted series of events Kinomon ended up maimed and Firepetal ended up dead at the hands of Reginald Plume, the villain of the story. This being the late 80's, death in comics was hardly uncommon but Firepetal was different in that we got to know her and Kinomon. She sacrificed her life to save the man, er, dragon she loved. Even the writers apologized in the comic for killing Firepetal but as they said, "That's just how the story went."
She really was a very likable character, and seeing Kinomon avenge her death was a cathartic moment.
Anyway, here's Firepetal from a portfolio centered on the Golden Realm and its characters.

One day I'd love to see a novel or a series of novels with the continuation of the thought expressed there.
"Where wizards fail, warriors succeed."
"Where warriors fail, thieves succeed."
"Where thieves fail, love succeeds."
"Where love fails, only sacrifice succeeds."
Either one for each chapter, or one for each novel in the series.
