While the other two are straightforwardly violent, Paper "covers" or "smothers" Rock so I envisioned him as a sort of Machiavellian mastermind. It seemed appropriate for him to polluting the air with smoke. He's probably near-saturated with cologne too; anything that makes it harder for others to breathe.
