Otters are quite small among the peoples of the world and we seek safety near the rivers we’ve mastered. From one generation to the next we teach a simple lesson: “A bear in waters deep is bound where otters creep”. This is ingrained into our brains from a young age and it’s unusual to see us far from the rivers because of it (well, that and the endless supply of fish they provide).
It’s been some time since I last visited an otter village. There’s one hidden far up the Greenwall River and it’s not a place easily traveled, unless you can swim upstream for miles at a time. No problem for a healthy otter but most others would tire before reaching the halfway mark.
Upon arrival, the first thing you’ll notice is that most of the village floats upon the river. It is still anchored to the bottom of course, but you’re never more than a few steps away from the comforts of water. The second thing you’ll notice is a rather...peculiar…commonality in choice of wardrobe. Clothing tends to make swimming difficult after all and as a result you won’t see much more than a pair of pants, if even that, worn by most otters. This leads to a strong emphasis on intricate accessories such as necklaces, bracelets and belts as means of self expression.
The last thing you’ll notice in the village is a long lasting sense of peace among the people. It’s gotta be all the fish right? What else could it possibly be?Category Music / Fantasy
