Where there is power there must eventually come a stopping point - a highest echelon before you just end up at formless and thoughtless chaos that makes up reality. Standing at the peak are the Primal Beings, the living personification of things that will always exist so long as the mortal universe does. Time, Darkness, Death, Earth, Sky, and several more - so long as they exist in the universe, so too will the Primal force that represents - and IS - them.
Those who know of my nature as a Reaper may think it's kind of amusing the first Primal I write about isn't Death-the-entity, my master and the one who recruited me to execute his will alongside the other Reapers. Instead, I speak of Lady Nyx, the living personification of darkness, night and shadow, mother of many gods... including one of the closest people in my life.
The first time meeting any Primal is always anxiety-inducing for me, they're the only beings in creation who can judge, jury and execute and destroy a soul permanently without EXTREMELY lengthy trials between Heavens and Hells that they still need to be on call for, which means offending one carries a level of risk even a true-immortal like me isn't safe from (though they themselves often deliberate for months if it has to be done).
They say Lady Nyx's homeworld is a world where reality is out to lunch, a planet that has no sunlight, yet still carries a warmth, life and a solemn but comforting mood akin to a full moon night in the spring, those who live there, be they native or transplanted mortals, will in time find themselves being taken by that darkness - by her - and becoming beings of living solid shadow themselves, swirling in eternity at her beck and call as an army of grasping hands when they're not shifting near-formlessly through her eternally shadowed kingdom in what is a paradise - though an outsider may need convincing of that.
Being the shadows herself, Nyx is naturally formless shade but can shapeshift. She can only exist in the absence of natural sunlight, like nighttime, or in caves, or if she desperately needs to manifest she can exert her will and darken the sky as far as the eye can see... though since this naturally would cause mass panic, it's only done if it's a pressing emergency.
As for why her current form is, to my consternation, a Zorgoia...
Despite being darkness itself and having a very collected and seemingly emotionless demeanor at times, Nyx has a lover's heart with many mates who joined her in shadows, and is loving mother to many other gods herself. Her youngest child was the result of a visit to Veldram where she took the form of a Zorgoia to interact, where she was taken by a handsome young Spireborn who was infatuated by this maiden who could only exist when the sun was set and the light was weak, entering into a tryst that resulted in the Spireborn bidding his family farewell and sacrificing his body of flesh and blood for one of shadow and magic to join her realm as her newest mate.
The result of their union when they chose to have a child together is my beloved weaver of dreams herself. I had suspected for a long time Fia was a Demi-Primal, holding the power of a Deity over a concept that's as universal as sentient life but not being a part of a pantheon, nor ever being scouted by one. She admitted the game was up - she had never admitted her parentage so she would be treated as nothing more special than any other deity, but a surprise visit from Nyx to my cave - uninvited to a near heart attack from myself and Ran'dol at the realization of who we were speaking to, meant she couldn't play dumb - though we're not treating her any different for it.
Nyx has an increased interest in Vakkert Sedd of late for how the world is growing and changing, and decided to manifest and explore, but not before checking in on her beloved youngest and letting her know how her father was doing. Fia can mentally slip away in her own dreams to Nyx's world to visit, so her loving parents have been a constant presence in her life despite never being seen in the physical world with them, which I was happy to learn of. As for why she's still a Zorgoia, she told me with the intonation of 'don't think too hard' that she just enjoys how formless and limber their biology is with their noodly forms, it's likely actually fairly close to her true formless existence. That, and Fia's father loves her in any form but since it was that form he fell for, she wears it for him and her daughter, something I found sweet.
Besides the low-key horror that my mother-in-law is one of the few beings in creation that can unmake me if I hurt her daughter, I found Nyx's presence to be soothing in spite of the veil of darkness she cast, her personality is understated, but not unfriendly, so more visits are likely... and I'll need to keep being on my best behavior.

New Year, new character.
I bought this adopt a few weeks ago and wanted to debut her earlier, but the sickness happened so it got delayed, glad to finally get around to it.
Corrie and her SO had recently finished The Thousand Year Door remake and needed to do a charity drive for a mutual who was having issues, so she decided to make this Zorgoia inspired by the final boss! Being a massive fan of the game myself with plenty of nostalgia for it, and seeing an opportunity to have a Nyx for my setting, I swooped in to grab her and make her something very similar, but still quite different from the Shadow Queen herself.
I'm not sure what I'm going to do with the crystal stars in her design, but I'll think of something.
Nyx belongs to me!
