So, a little earlier
LittlestSiggy was doing a 'Siggy's Take' commission stream over on Twitch: hand over a ref sheet of a character of yours, and Siggy would draw a personal take on the character in question, with an explicit warning of 'don't join if you're very particular about how your character is drawn'. Given that Siggy had already drawn Jenora, Sara, Mercedes, Svetlana, and Ember already, I decided to go with Aonbheannach/Eithne this time, because why not? I wanted to see what Siggy would do with her. And the result was this piece, which went a bit more old-school in design in places. I like it, it definitely plays more into the 'nature spirit' side of things than many of the other pictures of her.
Hunh, given that list of previous Siggy pieces, I really should consider making a new folder.

Eithne/Aonbheannach is actually from the same story as Lyta the charcoal drawing liger; the actual main character is Alicia, a human animation college student who discovered magic when she accidentally used a magic pencil to bring Lyta to life, and then discovered that one of her friends and regular commissioners was actually a shape-shifted unicorn who was interested in her at least in part because she had magic potential. (Yeah, Alicia got a dealer's table at furry conventions; frankly I expect most animation students these days are going to at least know about the fandom.)
I may have been thinking about this for a while.
Including the bits like 'she got involved with groups like Ducks Unlimited back in the 1930s to have her grove legally classified as a conservation land trust so she can use the legal system against anybody who tries to move in'.
Magical creatures that have survived to the modern day should have some understanding of how to navigate it. (Why yes, that was one of my big complaints about Harry Potter, the way that most wizards seemed blissfully unaware of anything to do with the mundane world.)

I mean, sure, Eithne is about two hundred years old, which is actually young for a forest spirit (there are individual standing trees that are four or five thousand years old, and colonies over ten thousand), but that also made her less hidebound than some of her cousins. There's a reason she left Ireland, and it's because she saw the writing on the wall with regards to forests being cut down over there.
Of course, when she got to Canada she discovered most of the big local forests already had local guardian spirits that didn't want upstarts moving in, which is why she has this little grove in parkland out in the Prairies rather than anything bigger.
