Lauren Faust, creator of the show also worked on Powerpuff Girls, and Foster's Home for Imaginary friends- two shows of far and beyond quality. Also, the viewership of the show is 80% male.

Not to mention the intended demographic being 7-10 year old girls, but managing to get 15-30 males. As such, the fandom of the show is actually paid attention to, and recently us, "Bronies" have been getting plenty of shout outs from Hasbro.
There's absolutely no reason not to watch the show. It's just really well done.
