Trying to figure out why my friend in europe didn't do gen 1 pokemon games growing up. :3

For what it's worth, as a Dutch guy myself, I did play gen 1 Pokémon games growing up, as did everyone around me. No one knew what was going on but we played it anyway 'cause we were dumb kids and what else were you gonna do? If anything, games helped me learn English!
Oh how cool to hear about! That's a good point too - even when kids are like 7-8 they might not really be great at reading their own language and just skim through the playing part of games, so kids can do that games in other languages too. :3 My friend also mentioned learning a bit of english from seeing it. At least it sounded like the anime was more helpful!
Adding on, I'm a former language teacher so I know a thing or two about this, the ages of 3-8 are actually when kids are very open to learning language, and they're still in the stage of learning-by-doing, which means that raising a child bilingual makes it so much easier for them to pick up both languages. Don't force it down through hours in study, but exposing them to languages and having them interact with it will help them in the long run.
