Why do they call it a shot?
It's not like I'm holding a gun. It's just a ball. It's not even that heavy. I'd have to work at giving someone even a bruise with this thing.
Calling it a shot makes it sounds like I'm holding a weapon. Like I'm looking to destroy something. All I'm doing is jumping and throwing a ball. Seems crazy to call it something so serious as a shot.
Hey, I don't mean to cheapen what I do. I've worked hard at this. I've done it again and again and again, more times than most furs have ever done any one thing in their lives.
You do it enough times, you learn to focus. To push everything out of your head and concentrate on getting that ball in that basket. You learn it so well, your mind doesn't even think about it. Your muscles just know what to do as much as they know how to walk or breathe.
And you have to get that good. It doesn't matter if you can hit a hundreds buckets on a practice court. When it's game time, you have to be ready. You have to be able to ignore that paw in your face. You have to not hear the crowd chanting for you to lose. You have to forget about how that defender clocked you in the jaw two plays ago and got away with it.
It doesn't matter that my ankle's been hurting since this morning. It doesn't matter that the analysts called my game overrated. It doesn't matter that I missed my last three opportunities. I could have missed a dozen times. Maybe a thousand. Not this one. Not this one.
Because when I decide I'm going for that bucket, I commit. Everything in my game, everything in my mind, everything in my existence is for that moment. I don't care who's trying to block me. I don't care what my coach thinks of me. I don't care if the crowd hates my guts. I don't care if my team's behind on the scoreboard. I don't care that my body is tired and hurting, that my stats aren't what they've been, that I got passed up for that endorsement, that I had an argument with my teammate, that I've been questioning how good I am. Everything in my existence gets razed for that moment because the only thing that matters right now is that hoop, this ball and me making this one Goddamned shot.
Oh.
That's why.

I don't think having long ears would be too much of an issue. Sturdy ears like a fennec may have a bit more aerodynamic issues than floppy-eared critters, but on the whole it would be a problem.
The bigger issue, oddly enough, would be a thick, broad, or long tail. You kinda wanna get skinny when going for a jump shot, which is hard to do if you have a wide base like a roo or a dinosaur.
