It's taken most of two weeks to get this looking right. Still not done, but I'm proud of the results.
I wish Flash's native Perlin noise implementation was less shity; it is incapable of generating pure white, it only gets up to RGB 175,175,175, at best, and even then rarely (on average it gets up to about 140). The AS3 implementation is god awful slow in comparison.

Gotta tweak the stars, the distribution of them isn't right. I also think I figured out a way to make it faster.

:( There are billions of them though. Realistically, something is bound to be completely clustered together.

Well yes. Just the clustering I have is unnatural. It's locally turbulent, but on a large scale it's too uniform and repetitive.
