Po and Tigress both looked at the ceiling, keeping their hands on their stomachs as though enjoying looking at the stars. Too bad there was only ceiling to look at. “That floor.” Po said simply. Tigress nodded.
“Mhmm.”
Po wanted to say many things, but felt he was in the one place he wasn’t allowed to speak a word. Rolling over towards the edge of the bed, Po realized his larger body’s frame made it a problem to be so far rolled over. He could easily roll off the bed. Po rolled back over on his back, feeling very awkward, and drumming his fingers on his rotund stomach.
Po dared a glance over in Tigress’ direction. Her head was turned away from him. Po looked up at the ceiling. Po wanted to roll over. Sleeping on his back was too uncomfortable. Plus, the wood chips that had stuck into his fur were pushing against him, and he had slept both on his back and side. Was there enough room on the other side?
Po looked over again. There was. Tigress took up hardly any space where she was laying. Po scooted towards his edge of the bed, then slowly started to roll over so that he’d face Tigress. He started to lower himself, when he heard a squeak. Po stopped, holding himself up, than tried again. Squeak. Po decided to go for it, but after a couple squeaks, Tigress stirred. Po rolled himself back over hastily, but was too far near the edge and fell off the bed. In the pain sounds that followed, Tigress awoke and looked over.
“Po. Are you alright?” Tigress asked.
Po sat up. “Yeah, yeah I’m fine. Just fell off the bed.” Tigress turned back over and Po brushed his side as best he could. He’d rather sleep on his other side than cause any more trouble. Po was able to muster the strength to endure the wood shavings a bit more now, and, slowly, he was able to fall asleep.
Tigress awoke feeling nice and warm. It got cold during the night, probably because there were holes somewhere that allowed the night air in. Yet ANOTHER reason the room was so cheap. Tigress would kill someone for that. But, for now, she allowed herself to smile and cuddle with the mattress, feeling particularly warm. Until it moved. Tigress was up and out of the bed before her eyes even opened. Po was lying there, and was stirring. Tigress stood frozen, eyes wide, realizing what she’d just done. Slowly, she started moving again, and allowed herself to breathe.
Then she let out an embarrassed chuckle. Po…she’d snuggled with Po… Tigress turned towards the wall and snorted a laugh. How foolish was she? Like a child clinging to the arm of a stranger, feeling for sure that it’s their mother or father. Tigress turned, smiling at her sleeping companion. Po was quite warm, though…
Tigress, awake now, threw open the window and let the early morning air and sun enter the room. Po moaned and turned over away from the window. Tigress came up beside him. “Po.” Tigress said, then shook him. “Po.” She repeated. Po turned and opened his eyes.
“Oh, Tigress.” Po said, then sat up. “Time to go?” He asked, rubbing his eyes.
“Yes.” Tigress said, picking up her bag, a smile on her face. “It’s time to go.”
Po got up. “How can anyone see at this hour?”
“Don’t worry,” Tigress said, pushing Po towards the door, “I’ll guide you out.” She smiled.
“Mhmm.”
