Hello there! Today I'm here with something really cool.
Some time ago I have started reading a series called "Wings of Fire"!
And I gotta say, I LOVE THIS SERIES.
I mean a book series about dragons!!! I got really into it.
And after finishing arc 2 I wanted to commission some art for it.
So... Here we are! It turned out great and I love it!
Here's a little story I wrote for this artwork ^ ^
Qibli had a secret he never told anyone. Not even Thorn, or... Moon.
He knew it was really wrong of him to hide something like this.
But he felt that he needed this, to keep his sanity.
Several months ago, when he was flying towards Jade Mountain from a visit to his queen, he spotted some strange ruins.
He decided to swoop down and investigate them. The ruins were increadibly old and built into one of the mountains.
They were really well hidden and Qibli was sure he would have missed them easily, if it wasn't for something shining from one of the
openings that caught his attention.
From the moment he entered the ruins, Qibli felt a sense of foreboding, like this whole domain shouldn't even exist in the first place.
The ruins themself didn't seem to hold much. They were mostly empty, with only several old rotten wooden furnite but from the looks of it, they appeared to be someone's abode, abandoned an increadibly long time ago.
Qibli didn't have any idea what kind of dragon would choose to live in seclusion like this, nor did it really bother him at the moment.
And while he did find several scrolls here and there, they were either too old and would fall apart with a mere touch, or too illegible to be read by him.
As he entered what appeared to be the bedroom, he finally found the very thing that caught his attention. It appeared to be a mirror that fell from a wall.
The mirror must have reflected the sunlight which is what brought him here.
The mirror itself seemsed to have shattered upon hitting the ground, and was split in two. It's frame was made from a dark wood.
Upon inspecting it's back, he noticed a writing that was etched into the wood.
It read:
Upon the wall, the ebony glass,
A portal to futures, a window to past.
Its surface gleams, a darkened tide,
Reflecting truths no soul can hide.
In its depths, a golden gleam,
Dreams take shape, a whispered dream.
Kingdoms rise, and lovers dance,
A world of light, a fleeting chance.
But shift your gaze, the shadows creep,
A chasm yawns, unfathomed deep.
Monsters lurk with eyes like fire,
Echoes of doubt, and hearts’ desire.
The mirror shows, yet does not lie,
Both hope’s ascent and fear’s dark sky.
And as you look, it whispers clear:
"To face the truth, you must draw near."
Qibli found the inscryption to be quite fascinating. He decided to present this finding to Moon, so they can study it at Jade Mountain together.
But then as he thought about the writing more and more he wondered what the it actually meant. That last line in particular caught his attention.
He decided to do the first thing that came to his mind and simply... pick up the mirror and look upon his reflection.
And then, he nearly got a heart attack.
While the right half of the mirror properply reflected his own self... its left half reflected something else, SOMEONE else.
It reflected the very dragon he thought he would never have to face again. It reflected Darkstalker.
Qibli dropped the mirror and brought himself into a defending position, just in case that he would have to fight.
But to his surprise... The attack never came.
As he held the mirror in his talons once more, he found the looming dragon looking fairly amused by him.
Qibli tried to make conversation with him, but Darkstalker never responded him.
He never attacked him, never talked, or did anything that would indicate he was even there.
The only thing he seemed to do is stare down maliciously at him.
He was certain that they defeated Darkstalker, so why was he seeing him now all of a sudden? Did he disenchant himself? Did he come back to haunt him, somehow?
He couldn't make any sense of what he was seeing, so he decided to study the inscryption once more.
Eventually, he came to some conclusions. That the mirror must be some sort of an animus touched object.
And that the Darkstalker he was seeing wasn't real. But then why was he seeing him in the reflection?
And then it dawned on him like the rising sun. What the whole poem was talking about. What this mirror did.
It reflected the dragon's desires and fears back to them. After he figured this out, Qibli finally calmed down.
He realized that this Darkstalker coulnd't hurt him. He wasn't even real. He was merely his own... fear? He could be certain of that, couldn't he?
It had to be, right? But what if instead this wasn't that. What if instead, the mirror reflected his desire? The desire that he thought was no longer there.
The desire to be an animus. To have magic, to save his tribe, or even an entire Pyrriah.
Was he still yearning to be such a dragon? Did he still want this power, even after witnessing all the chaos, pain and suffering it brought?
He wasn't sure. This uncertainty shook him down to his core. He run away to Jade Mountain, not wanting to have to think about this anymore.
He was already done trying to be a diffrent dragon, he was perfectly happy being who he was. Who Moon and Thorn and everyone else wanted him to be.
But what he saw, he could not unsee. From that day, whenever he felt distraught, or hopeless, or uncertain, he returned to this place.
To face his fears. To reassure himself. To make himself feel better. He knew this wasn't healthy, or right, but it was a rather twisted habbit of his.
But he felt like he needed to do this, if only for himself.
THE END
Aand there! I like to think that the golden cookie boyo still contemplates the fear of becoming the Goober dragon.
And now, he projects those fears with this little finding, which is probably not so healthy for him.
Aanyways, hope you enjoyed this little story!
