From Manky to Lanky, I couldn't very well draw one orangutan from the Donkey Kong Country series without drawing the other! In terms of design Lanky Kong has always been one of those that I felt needed to cook more. He looks fine, but he just needs a little more. Something about him always felt like Rare decided at the last minute to make him clown-like, slapped a red nose on him and called it a day but I think if they had went fully into the clown vibe he would have benefited from it greatly -- so I did just that!
Lanky Kong needs to be overtly fun and playful and silly, but his normally sleepy look takes away from that. He should be allowed to unashamedly exist as the cartoon even within a cartoon world so I leaned more into a rubberhose-like vibe for him and his physiques. No one really knows where he came from so I also leaned into the hobo clown look for him. Again, none of this is meant to disparage the staff at Rare. They've done amazing job,s this is simply my input on the character, nothing more.
All-in-all, Lanky was a character that I felt had a great template that needed a little touch up to make her shine (to my tastes) and that's all I did here!
