This is Astro, my fursona. He's a wolf-canine mix. This was done on commission by a totally awesome cougar named Coug, and a fantastic job he did of it, if I say so myself. I'm now quite smitten with him. :)

It really started with the character, Astro (I'm actually working on a fursuit to match).. Astro shares a lot of my traits, including a love of snowboarding. Coug (the artist) and I were originally thinking of doing a surfing or snowboarding style scene, so it started with him in that position and no background.. wrong season for snowboarding though, and I don't have any oceans nearby, so we started thinking about what would be an appropriate environment for a wolf. That's when I came up with surfing down a ravine or mudslide in a forest. Coug was equally excited about the idea and as you can see, the results were stunning. If you like it, please give props to the artist (Coug, you can find him here on FA, http://www.furaffinity.net/user/coug/ ).
Thanks for sharing the story and propping the artist, the end product is wonderful
Ooh A matching fursuit would be great, hopefully your able to airbrush into it all the hair colors and red spots so they appear more natural and blend with the fur. I also hope you can find some green glass eyes that are the same color as this portrait as Peridot (August birth stone) as it is such a lovely color and don't feel a normal green or olive color does your character justice.
Who knows, after the fursuit is finished you may end up starting a new trend. Already there is a line of candy named fursuits like Godiva, Hershey, Skittles etc.. but I am not familiar with a line of delicious icy treats like astro pup seems to be named from.

I like this so much I Favorited it in both your Gallery and Coug's. In fact I saw Coug's submission of this way back in August. Why didn't I look at it here back then?!
And as I said to Coug, this is something I have to try in fursuit sometime, when I find a suitable place. I am presently making my fursuit. And yes, it WILL get muddy, knowing myself! But I won't be the first--if you want proof, see this: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/238939/ and this (and the next three photos after it--click "older"): http://www.furaffinity.net/view/3810015/ and be sure to check out this fox's Gallery.

Now why did I think you wanted to know all this? So often when I see a picture that features mud, I think the furry who submitted it must be a mud-lover. Sometimes true, but not always of course.
